Ham Radio

My call sign is KC6TNB. My main interest is ATV (Amateur TeleVision).

PACIFICON 99

Just returned from Pacificon 99. Dan, KF6IQL and I went up in a Cessna 172 and did some Aviation Mobile at noon on Saturday and had a blast. We flew up and circled Mt. Diable (the repeater location) and at some points was sending back a good picture. It's no wonder, being 500 feet from the repeater definitely qualifies as "line of sight". Picture of Dan below getting ready for the big flight!

Below are some pictures of the ATV trailer, transmitting ATV video of the various ham radio forums going on throughout the weekend at Pacificon. A view from the outside and inside of the ATV trailer:

Below are photos of my shack:

The shack photo you will see an old tube "Meteor" HF rig (crystal or external VCO controlled) model SB175. An Icom receiver, video monitor, VCR, video camera, a couple of mobile CB radios, Astron RS-35M power supply, another adjustable power supply (home made), PC Electronics ATV transmitter and ATV downconverter, Diamond Antenna SX-1000 SWR/power meter, a morse code keyer and an old Rauland Borg microphone. Mounted behind this equipment is an SSB 5 watt 23cm amplifier, and a 30MHz low pass filter for HF use. Also in the picture is a handheld Icom R10 receiver, a Radio Shack CB, and an Alinco DJ-F1 2 meter HT. This whole setup is messy (obviously) and I hope to re-organize it soon.
antennas.jpg (39Kb)
The antennas in the picture are: the Cushcraft 15 foot yagi for 70cm ATV receive, mounted 5 feet away is the Cushcraft 10 foot yagi for 23cm ATV transmit, and on top of the mast in the center is a 1/4 wave 2 meter vertical. I used this mounting design so as not to interfere with the vertical antenna patterns. The mast is inserted into my roof sewer vent for the bathroom sink, supported by guy-wires, and the height determined by a U-bolt clamp. My scanner antenna is on the left, and doubles as a center attachment point for my HF dipoles for 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters and the balun.
